After the ice storm last weekend, we were able to continue with a good week before Thanksgiving. Monday we went to Chuck E Cheese with friends and that was such a blessing. The boys loved it and it was so nice to be out of the house after being inside for so long. Tuesday morning we went to the library and ran some errands. Wednesday afternoon we headed to our ranch. Ryon was eager to show me all the work he had done the weekend before. He did such a great job. He really cleared a ton and it's waiting on time to burn it now. The whole area where we want to build is almost cleared and so is the entrance. The boys weren't huge fans of being cold so we didn't get much 'sit by the campfire time'. Both boys love the camper. Ryon cooked us sausage and we had an easy, cramped dinner inside. We all ate off each other's plates and just had a grand time :) The boys were total monkeys in the camper this time. Jumping from top to bottom, shaking the door to get out, just nuts. Once bedtime came, the boys wouldn't calm themselves down. They were sleeping next to each other so Mason kept getting up to kiss Sutton and then they would giggle, laugh, jump. It was really funny to listen to. And really sweet they are becoming such good buddies. They finally fell asleep though.
Thursday was Thanksgiving so we went to Baird to Granny and Granddaddy's house. Grandaddy turned 85 years old. If my calculations were correct, there were 51 of us there! That includes kids and babies. But luckily the weather was beautiful and so we spent a lot of time outside playing. The great grandkids kept busy digging and playing tackle. It was fun to watch. That front yard has seen a lot of tackle football games! Later in the afternoon we helped put Granny's tree up. Mason was all into it and did pretty much every ornament. He loved being on the ladder and bossing me to give him another ornament. That night we drove to Brownwood to stay the night at the lake house. The next morning we loaded up and went to the land in Cross Plains. They were burning some brush so we hung out there a bit before going to our place. We drove the ranger and two four wheelers around the property to show Meredith and Teri. Meredith had never been out there and it had been a long time for Teri, so it was nice to show it off and see all the progress we've made. We are getting much closer to building a house out there and we simply can't wait.
Friday on the way home we had quite the scare. We were driving westbound on I20 when we had to swerve from a car going the wrong way, in our lane towards us. It was the scariest thing ever. I called 911 to report it and while I was on the phone with them another call came in that I could hear and it was a lady reporting the wreck. The car hit a truck head on just behind us. Two were killed and one injured. When I heard the wreck on the 911 call I just immediately started crying and praying out loud. I am still shaken by it. Just the fact that it could have been us so easily. I'm not sure why God saved us, but I'm thankful. Meredith and Justin were a little behind us and came up on the wreck right after it happened. Very scary.
Today was Christmas Tree time! We woke up and had a good breakfast and started putting our tree up. We soon learned that about half the lights were out and it was just really short for our house. So we went to get a REAL one. I grew up with a real tree but Ryon has never had one. We ended up at Lowe's because we didn't know where else to go in Midland since we hadn't planned on getting one. It wasn't the most fun experience, Sutton decided to be cranky the entire time. We picked a big tree and then the guys were carrying it to the front and they banged it around so much we decided to not get it. We picked a new one, which was perfect. It is the most perfect shape and size for our house. So today was full of decorating and hanging out around here together. The house looks great and it is nice to be home all together!
