This summer was the first summer I had both boys home with me every single day. Last summer Sutton was a newborn but Mason still went to MDO twice a week and I was given that short break when he was there. This summer was quite different! Overall this summer was really fun for the three of us spending our days together. Somedays were very lazy. Somedays were full of errands. Somedays were park, friends, snacks, playing, non stop every second. When I look back on it now, the word that comes to mind is grateful. I'm SO grateful to have spent three months with both of my boys every single day. It was not always easy. It was no always fun. But as the days went on we figured it out. I feel like Sutton grew up a ton this summer. I also feel like Mason and Sutton only began their brother bonding. At the beginning of the summer Sutton couldn't walk. He simply crawled everywhere Mason went and did whatever he could to get around. His knees were black and he got tired pretty fast. By the end, he's almost running where ever he goes, climbs on all furniture, DRIVES the jeep (doesn't steer), and has just become a big boy. This was "his summer" I feel like. Mason and Sutton became attached at the hip and when one was asleep the other wasn't content. Mason also decided to give up naps so that made the days even longer sometimes, especially with the heat.
For the days, we had a lot of park visits. Which is honestly one of my favorite things to do with them. I love the simplicity of it. I love the learning they do while we are there. We went to Lubbock Science Spectrum, swim lessons, lunches out, the library, and really a whole lot of digging time in our back yard. Simple. easy. Yes we throw dirt on each other and get covered in dirt and hit and scream. But for the most part it was just so fun and simple.
The few words that describe our summer are: dirt. snow cones. swimming. weekend trips. brothers. long days. daniel tiger's neighborhood. hot. jeep rides. snack.
I'm very excited and ready for them to start their MDO two days a week tomorrow and just get back in a routine, but I know the boys are going to really miss each other. I hope I can always remember the simplicity of this summer and cherish the memories made.
Here are a few of my favorite summertime photos:
