What a wonderful school year we had. At the beginning of the year I grieved big time while having to leave both boys every day at school. Oh how Callahan and I missed Sutton so very much in the beginning. The house was quiet and so lonely. It still is when they are gone, but as a mama I slowly got used to it and Callahan and I found our way together. I absolutely love Midland Christian for the fact that I have no fear, no anxiety, no worry when I drop my kids off. I think this is huge. The boys were in the same hallway this year and so it was just so fun dropping them off, walking the halls, knowing their friends and knowing the parents. And I always knew they were just so close to each other which is so nice. The boys had wonderful school years.
When tested at the beginning of the year Mason was in the top of his class and he continued to move forward as the year went on. He excelled greatly in reading and can pretty much read anything he wants to now (when he wants to!). He struggled in the behavior department all year long which made it really hard on mama and daddy. He is so active, has so much personality, and loves to be the life of the party. You pair that with a teacher that needs to retire and an overly active classroom of crazy boys and let's just say we struggled a bit! BUT we survived. And his end of year scores came out with flying colors. He improved greatly over his peers in everything and I couldn't have been more proud. And I can honestly say I turned into a praying mama this spring. Yes we all pray for our kids. But I specifically would pray certain things over the boys towards the end of the year, and I felt like I could see changes. Slowly but surely, the things I prayed for were happening, what a blessing that was!
For Sutton, I was nervous at the beginning of the year since he's a young May birthday. He stayed at the top of his class and was compared academically with his classmates that were almost a year older than him. Most of the boys in his class had all been held back with Summer birthday's so they are all almost 6 while we just celebrated Sutton's 5th. This didn't bother him in the classroom. Mrs. Jone's is amazed at his reading level already and his memory is totally nuts. He will remember everything out of a teacher's mouth. He made lots of friends this year and had such a perfect class for him and for me. We all made friendships that will never go away this year. I'll be sad next year when we get separated most likely with different teachers.
Mason celebrated Kindergarten Graduation on May 18. His pictures are the most adorable thing I have ever seen. He has grown a lot this year, in maturity, in looks, in personality....just everything. He has become our big boy in a flash. As I looked at him at Graduation in that cap and gown I knew I was looking 12 years into our future with this spunky, smart, big hearted little boy looking at us. We are so proud of you Mason! You have big things waiting for you and I can't wait to support you in everything that you do.
We also had Sutton's big 5th Birthday! How he is so big I have no idea, what a blessing he is to all that meet him. He got the "Memory" award at school this year which didn't surprise me one bit. For his big birthday we had a few of his "bros" over to the house after school to play in the blow up pool, have water gun fights and water balloons. They enjoyed ice cream and cookie cake. It was a fun afternoon and I heard several times from the boys...."this is the best pool party ever!" So cute. As a big 5 year old Sutton is every bit big boy with little boy reminders. He can do big lego boxes alone in no time flat, he can change a diaper, he can read, he can make you feel like a million bucks with his sweetness, hugs and kisses. His stutter is still there and drives mama nuts sometimes, but behind the stutter is a little boy that can't wait to tell you with excitement his story. His green eyes just get greener as his tan body gets browner. He still loves his gimmie and is working hard to not suck his thumb. He still whines like a baby when Mason is being mean, and he is so stubborn. When he's in a bad mood, there is no getting him out of it....annoys the heck out of us! Sutton looks to Jesus and the bible for everything and I love that about him. He always reminds us to remember our faith. He loves baseball. He now wants to be a baseball player when he grows up. All he ever wants to do is play catch. And he's good, so I don't mind it!
We are so ready for summer and are already enjoying our days. We headed to the skate park Friday morning and had too much fun doing tricks on our skateboards and scooters. Even Callahan was being pushed around and down the ramps. God help that little one....he's going to get in so much trouble with his big brothers always encouraging him! It's been a great school year and end of year. We are ready for sweet Coryell in a week!
