Sutton,
You are our middle child now. Everything about you screams middle child already and it's only been (almost) 4 weeks. I love you to the very core of my soul, but goodness gracious you make me crazy sometimes. You do everything mason does. You support him wholeheartedly with whatever he's doing, and this is what I love about you. You know his friends, you are proud of him, you want to be just like him. But you are also a big brother. You are the sweetest to Callahan. You kiss, you hold, you feed, you sing, you worry, you talk to, you lay with….you simply care for him in a way that a big brother always should. Along with these things, you are your very own person. Thru and Thru. You are stubborn, you are fierce, you are cranky, you are sweet. You have a way of looking at us with those green eyes and making sure we know how much you love us. You are so creative. I have gotten to watch you by yourself over the last week without Mason here and I have learned so much about you. I have watched you build forts, we have hunted for bears, we have hidden from dragons, we have flown helicopters, we have ridden our bikes, we have sang songs, we have put out fires with our hoses…..you are so so so smart. You love music, can memorize anything you hear, and I mean anything. Your ear for music, for books, for prayers…you have all the words tucked away in your little heart. You are a boy that knows what he wants. You are determined. I can't wait to see where this takes you in life.
As a 3 year old, I want to remember the way you talk. I love your intellectual conversations and thought processes mixed with your young, childish voice. I want to remember how you talk with your hands thrown up. I want to remember how sweet your little hands feel in mine and how sweet you look when you sleep. I love when you are excited about something and give big high fives. I love that you always want to know what song is playing and who sings it, and you tell me when you can't hear the drums. I love that you are always hungry. ALWAYS. When we play baseball you constantly ask me if you have the glove on the correct hand. I love how you run. I want to remember how your booty looks when you put your underwear on backwards. I love how you make toys into phones and seem to always be ordering us food. You run fast and determined. You could sit for hours in the corner of the couch with your feet up, petting your foot on gimmie and sucking your thumb. I think as you grow, I'll always picture you like this. I love the look on your face when you say, "yeah, it's a little bit hard…" Referring to your bike going up a hill, something heavy, your shoes…
Of course there are "just a few" things you do that I could definitely do without but as a mama, I know I'll soon forget those things. The good moments are always sweeter than the rough ones with you.
I love you my Sutton.
