Our 8 Year Anniversary

Ryon and I just had our 8 Year Anniversary! I can honestly say it has probably been my favorite year with him. Not because it's been glamorous, or easy, or always fun, but simply because we are doing life together. Raising our boys together. Figuring out parenthood together. Figuring out ourselves and what we look like as husband, wife, father, mother and all the other hats we wear.
Anyway....we celebrated by going to Lajitas for the weekend. Teri picked the boys up early Friday morning and got them to school so we were on the road early. It was a quick trip of Ryon talking constantly and educating me on every.single.thing.he.saw. Haha. We drove thru Terlingua ghost town and saw really neat teepees and tents and a beautiful old cemetary. Life is very slow around there, but it's very interesting to see. Once at the Lajitas Resort we ate a good lunch with the weirdest bar tender ever and headed to the golf course. The course was so amazing. The views abundant and the company even better. Ryon played great and we had fun seeing all the scenery. The course is on the Rio Grande so it was pretty surreal to see the river. It was just right there. Just a river. With all the political talk in the world right now it was a good reminder that it's just a river. It's a place that if I was born on just the other side, life would be totally opposite of what I have now. There's mamas and daddy's and kids on the other side of that muddy river. I've been to Mexico's border as a kid but this time I saw it with new eyes.
Friday night we ate at the Thirsty Goat Saloon at the hotel. We had great food, drinks and live music. We had wonderful conversation and we just really enjoyed ourselves. Saturday we woke up and had an easy coffee at the bakery downstairs and decided to drive to Big Bend National Park. We didn't have a thing on our schedule so after talking to a few people we headed out. Once inside the park we were stunned at the beauty. Every bend we took it was just another beautiful site just as beautiful as the one we saw before. We ate lunch on top of the Chiso Mountains looking out to what they call the "window." The mountains were beautiful. We spend the next 5 hours driving the different roads in the park. We drove down to the Santa Alana Cliffs, which is where the Rio Grande goes thru. It was truly spectacular. The cliffs were so incredibly high. It was a beautiful site. We then did a little back road driving in the suburban on a dirt road thru the park.
We stopped at the Starlight Theatre to have drinks in Terlingua where we again met some interesting people. A man from England on a two week motorcycle trip with his buddies educated us on how religion is pretty much dead in England. A fact that I didn't know, and it was interesting to hear his viewpoints on God, or the lack thereof, to him. We went back to our hotel for dinner at the Saloon and then were finished for the day.
We were so thankful for the time away. We enjoyed not being on a schedule. I can't wait until the boys are bigger so we can take them up to the mountains in Big Bend, I think they will really love it.
